While gloves are effective in providing hand protection and control against infection, it is important to select the most appropriate glove to protect both the healthcare worker and patient. SHIELD is committed to fulfilling these needs with its comprehensive range of superior quality gloves with excellent barrier protection, comfort, fit and feel that facilitates good performance of work techniques.
The majority of healthcare workers do not have glove related allergy. The effective response to the risk of glove allergy must include two key elements; the proper diagnosis and management of skin allergy and the reduction of risk to those not yet sensitised.
SHIELD's efforts to address the potential for glove related allergy is through continued R&D, improvements in production process and education. Our powder-free latex gloves have very low level of soluble latex protein and residual manufacturing chemicals. In addition, for personnel who require a non-latex alternative, we have produced a true medical grade synthetic-free Nitrile glove, with very low level of residual production chemicals. Continue research efforts have resulted in a new non-Nitrile based synthetic glove that will soon make its debut.
Glove powder may cause irritation or aggravate a pre-existing skin condition. It may also act as a carrier for natural latex protein. We believe all medical environment should be powder free zones and where there is potential for contact with latex sensitive individuals, natural rubber latex must be completely avoided.
ELASTOMADE ACCESSORIES has the same philosophy in mind, and the Royal Shield Dental Dams are manufactured in powder free form and striving for low protein level, while not forgetting the more subtle aspect of patient comfort and reducing anxiety in the dentist's chair.
