A New Zealand company has developed a new anti-inflammatory pain relief medication, combining the pain relieving properties of both Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, that’s nearly a third more effective than Paracetamol alone following oral surgery.
Hartley Atkinson, founder and owner of AFT Pharmaceuticals, says his company developed Maxigesic ® while trying to find an alternative to other combination painkiller products.
"Those products often use Paracetamol or Ibuprofen as the basic active ingredient, but then add codeine to amplify the effect. However, codeine is an opiate, and there has been concern over its potential for mis-use."
